Backed up by musical sway of casuarinas trees and creeper over the sand dunes, Chandipur is a beach, with a unique distinction on its own. Unlike other beaches, the sea water here recedes away from the shore line about five km twice a day, an unusual phenomenon, rarely found anywhere. You can see the sea literally vanishing before your eyes and also watch it coming back rhythmically at regular intervals, as if playing hide and seek.

Elsewhere, the waves come and go dashing on the shore like madcap but here they are like a musical fountain, soothing to the eyes and ears. Elsewhere, the waters wait for the visitors but here the visitors have to wait for the waters. Elsewhere, the waves go wild and the visitors calm but here the ecstasy of visitors will go wild while the waves remain calm.

This marvel of Nature gives the bathers an unexpected pleasure of fearlessly walking into the sea and happily playing with the waves. When the waters disappear, you can even take jeep ride on the widest beach. The beauty of the exposed bosom of the beach is further enhanced by the small red crabs. If a beach comber, you will be delighted with its abundant wealth of sea shells and drift wood.

To enjoy Chandipur in its entire entirety, a minimum stay of twenty-four hours is recommended.

Hardly 2 km away is Balaramgadi where the river Budhabalang meets the sea. A trip through the mouth of the meandering river on a fisherman's boat is a pleasant experience. Watching them cast their nets and pull their catch of fish is memorable.

Remuna (25 Kms.)* -

Remuna, a small town about 9 kms from Balasore town and 25 kms from Chandipur is famous for the historic Khirachora Gopinath temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna. It was a seat of the Vaishnavite culture during ancient period. Shri Chaitanya, a great devotee of Lord Vishnu & Krishna had also visited Remuna to worship Kirachora Gopinath. Today, the temple is visited by hundreds of devotees everyday to seek the blessings of Lord Gopinath (a form of Lord Krishna). A special condensed milk is prepared in the temple which is famous for its sweet taste.

Chandaneswar (104 Kms.)* -

Chandaneswar, 88 kms. from Balasore and 104 kms from Chandipur and 5 kms. from Digha (West Bengal), Chandaneswar, the abode of Lord Shiva is a great pilgrimage centre not only for the people of Orissa but also for the people of adjacent West Bengal. A popular local festival known as Chadaka Mela is celebrated here in the month of April which attracts thousands of people from all over the state of Orissa and West Bengal. The Shiva Lingam here is said to be about twenty feet down the shakti which is the uniqueness of the shrine.

Talasari (107 Kms.)* -

8 km from Digha (West Bengal) and 3 kms. from Chandaneswar is the tranquil beach at Talasari. One could behold with wonder the glistening glory of the Bay of Bengal spread like a bejeweled carpet as far as one's eyes could reach. The shimmering surface, the myriad twinkles all around give this calm beach a status of its own.

Choumukh-Dagara Beach (80 Kms.)* -

About 64 km from Balasore town and 80 kms from Chandipur and 14 kms from Baliapal is Choumukh, a quiet beach and an ideal site for picnickers and nature lovers. The calm and serene atmosphere of Choumukh village and its lovely beache attract visitors from the nearby areas. During special occasions like Christmas and New Year's Day the site is packed with picnickers from the whole district and even from nearby West Bengal.
Choumukh is easily accessible from Balasore. Direct buses are available from Balasore to Baliapal. From Baliapal one has to go by taxi or auto rickshaw. Dagara is another beach, 6 kms from Choumukh.

Ayodhya (51 Kms.)* -

Ayodhya is noted for Buddhist and Jain remains. A large number of images have been unearthed from this place among which Buddha, Jain, Parshwanath, Natraj, Bhairavi, Maricha, Tara are noteworthy. Marichi is the most attractive presiding deity of this place.

Maninageswar (Bardhanpur)(28 Kms.)* -

The temple of Maninageswar is an ancient temple which has been perhaps built in the year 1600 A.D. Mythology says that the Pandavas at the time of their 'Agyantabas' used to take bath at Pandava ghat in the Bay of Bengal very close to Bardhanpur, where the temple Maninageswar is situated. After taking bath, they used to have a Darsan of Maninageswar Shiva. At the time of visiting the spot, one can enjoy the beauty of Sea beach which is only 2 km. from the spot.

Panchalingeswar(46 Kms.)* -

Situated on a hillock near Nilagiri, Panchalingeswar is a place with beautiful surroundings. The five lingams after which the place is known as Panchalingeswar with a perennial spring flowing over them are the attraction of this place. It is an ideal base for trekking through the Kuldiha forest upto Nilagiri.

Sajanagarh (41 Kms.)* -

Sajanagarh is a place which was serving as a military base during the period of ex-rulers of Nilgiri state. The main attraction of the place is the temple of goddess 'Bhudharchandi'.
